I just wanted to write and tell everyone about my experience with BTD products. I went to the Big Game Contest at the Showplace in Richmond on Aug. 11, 2007. I had planned to enter the turkey calling contest that weekend, but was hesitant to do so because I didn’t have a call that I could kee kee on.

I stopped by the BTD Outdoors booth and asked about your calls. After talking to Tim who was working the booth, I decided to try a couple. I bought the Spanish Flydown, Yellow Yelper and the Old Faithful diaphragms. After testing these calls and with only about an hour before the contest I was able to produce some very good yelps, clucks and kee kee’s. I was so pleased with the BTD Outdoor calls that I entered in the Novice and the Intermediate classes and did not even use the other calls that I had brought.

This was the first time I have ever entered in calling contest of any kind, so my expectations weren’t very high. Thanks to an outstanding product made by you guys at BTD Outdoors I am happy to tell you that I placed 2nd in the Novice class and 1st in the intermediate class. I won $200 cash for placing 2nd in the Novice class and a Franchi I-12 Semi Auto shotgun for the 1st place win in the Intermediate class.

Not a bad day by any standards thanks to BTD Outdoors! I have enclosed a picture of me and my cousin Jonathan who won 3rd place in the Intermediate class with our prizes. I could not have done it without you. I would like to tell everyone out there to try your products. They aren’t overpriced and they work. I look forward to using your products in the future!

Thanks Again!

I own ARCHERS SUPPLY in Buchanan VA. I only hunt with a bow and that means I have to get up close and personal with the game I am after. I hunt the nastiest and narliest brush I can crawl into and that makes my shots less than 20 yards. This past season I tried BTD WHITETAIL COVER for the first time. All I can say is, it really works!! I took three Pope and Young bucks this season. The largest one was taken the last day of the late season on January 3rd 2004 and he never had a clue that I was 15yards away. I would like to thank Max and his staff for such a great product and you can bet that I will have it in my backpack and in my archery shop this coming hunting season
- JOE MONAGHAN, ARCHERS SUPPLY

Hey Max,
You were right! I tagged out the 29th of April 2003 using your Ole Faithful mouth call. During the course of the season I called in 10 gobblers and yours was to only call I used. Great Call!!!
- Darrell Cockran, Meadows of Dan, VA

Max gave me my first sample of BTD Whitetail Cove Scent at no charge and asked me to try it and let him know how it worked. Well, I took my best buck in 28 years of hunting and more over I didn’t get winded by even one deer all season. To say the least I have a new cover scent and as long as he makes it. I will keep it in my hunting box. As far as I am concerned BTD Whitetail Cover has got all the other covers beat COLD!!!

Hey Max,
I used your cover scent this past fall quite a bit. You gave me a couple of sample bottles at Freddy’s cookout. I had a real nice season & I can certainly say that the BTD did not spook the game. I used it starting with archery season & with the warm weather it certainly helped. I sprayed it on packs & coats left in the truck for the next days hunt & was surprised of the smell upon entering the vehicle at the start of the day. Much better than the ones I have used in the past. My wife even likes it. That means a lot. I harvested 4 deer & 2 turkeys & can say I used the product at least 50 percent of my time afield. Good product & I will need more. Take care.

It was very cold and windy that morning so I put out scent bombs with your cover scent in them around my stand. Then I climbed in my stand and waited. A buck came up a showed a real liking to the scent bombs. He is now in my Freezer. Thanks for a great cover scent.

(As posted on vaturkey board in Oct. of 2002 www.vaturkey.com)
Friday afternoon as I was making my way to my stand I spotted a nice little buck feeding in a hollow. Since it had rained quite a bit earlier that day it made for a perfect stalk… which I love doing! After dousing myself with BTD cover scent (made by our own Knight_VA) I started closing in on the buck. 50 yards away and down in the hollow and the wind starts swirling. The buck I think realizes something is amiss but doesn’t spook. I close the distance some more until I run out of stalking cover. The buck is 40 yards and the wind is still swirling and the deer gets a little nervous but still doesn’t spook. I pull out my Primos hardwood grunter and give 2 really soft contact grunts. The buck turns and starts heading toward me. At 30 yard he goes behind a tree and I draw. He comes out the other side and I make another grunt with my mouth to stop him and he does… 30 yards and the arrow busts him in the shoulder… 50 yards away I watch as he goes down! I sit down right where I shot from and take out my binoculars and look him over. I can see that his right side has 4 points! (not including brow tines which I could not see) I waited about 10 minutes and slipped over to the deer and discovered that it was a beautiful little 8 pointer. The brow tines that I could not see were not even there! He didn’t have a hint of a brow tine but had 4 points to a side. I was pretty proud of him. I’m not one for advertising but without BTD cover scent and my Primos grunt tube this deer would still be out there! Hope everyone had some success this weekend… just wanted to share with you folks! BTW, just to keep this on topic I almost got a shot at a turkey while I was coming out of the woods to get help! That would have been really awesome!

BTD Whitetail Cover Scent ~ December 2002
Something Old, Something New!

Sometimes you have to look back on things and re-evaluate your position. It’s not easy to teach an old dog like me new tricks, but I am also not so set in my ways that I won’t at least give something a try!

Cover scents have always been something that I used off and on until I started hearing reports from Virginia about a product that was working great for hunters up there. Now, let me explain what hunting in the mountains can be like, and then tell you what I discovered.

The wind blows constantly, and it is almost impossible to find a place where you can count on it coming from only one direction!

This presents a problem if you like to have your deer close before you shoot them, as I do… And, it is hard to make me believe a deer directly downwind cannot smell you, no matter what product you use to cover your scent.

BTD Whitetail Cover Scent can be found in many sporting good stores in Virginia, or can be ordered directly from their website www.btdoutdoors.com. Please mention that you saw them listed on our website.

I started using BTD Whitetail Cover Scent at the beginning of bow season in Mississippi, but admittedly with some concern that I might spook some deer when they caught wind of a foreign scent in the woods. Saturating the limbs and leaves around my stand with the pleasant vanilla smell, which appears to be one of the base ingredients, didn’t seem to bother the first deer that I saw. But, I wasn’t convinced just yet.

In early November I was in Virginia, where I gave it another workout. Once again, I never heard a deer blow, even though I am sure there were many downwind of me and out of sight in the mountains. But, the icing on the cake came when I tried it on opening weekend of rifle season around the edge of some large planted fields in Mississippi. There, I could actually see the deer reacting to the smell of the scent, and they were not spooking. I watched several old does work their way into the scent stream and as close as 40 yards downwind of me. They would stick their noses up and just stand there inhaling. To say the least I was amazed, and kept waiting for them to blow and clear the field. When that didn’t happen, I started to believe in BTD!

Most of the time, I feel like outdoor products come at a premium, but this one is priced reasonably, and makes me feel like you really get your money’s worth. The bottle has a very handy sprayer, and contains enough scent to last a very long time. And that’s good, because I carry it with me, and use it, on every trip now. In my opinion, this one works!

I took this buck in the fall of 2001 while using BTD Cover Scent. I strongly recommend this product and I think it will help you see and take more deer. I had numerous deer during bow, muzzleloader, and rifle season come in from downwind and in some cases come across the trail I used to enter my stand without ever knowing I was there. This was my first year using BTD and I am impressed!”
- Freddy McGuire, Goodview, Va.

I purchased BTD Whitetail Cover Scent at Dominion Outdoors tent sale in September of 2002. I was using it when me and this 170 class 11pt met up during the early muzzleloader season the same year. BTD helped me take the buck of a lifetime. It is a great product!
- Roy Gregory, Staunton VA

I let a friend use my camo bibs the first part of rifle season. He sprayed some BTD Cover Scent on them. A week later I could still smell BTD when I put them on before taking this 155 class buck. I use BTD myself now!

Max,
Just wanted to let you know how my first hunt with your mouth calls went. Got out for the morning hunt on opening day last week, and after the torrential rain slowed down, I moved to the side of a hollow about 75 yards below a field. Took out the Ole Faithful call (of course) and let out two series of 4-5 note yelps. About 10 minutes later I hear a turkey clucking up around the edge of the field. I immediately start clucking back, and the turkey answers me with some very excited clucks. This turkey called non-stop for at least 10 minutes, just clucking the entire time. Of course I gave it right back to the bird. I’ve never heard anything like it! The bird doesn’t appear to be moving any closer, so I throw my calls down the hollow, mixing some very excited clucks with some cutting. This gets the bird moving and before I know it, I see the bird moving through some thick saplings about 25 yards away. It steps into a clear lane and its then that I see his long (10+ inches) beard and realize I just called in my first fall longbeard! Unfortunately he came down my side of the hollow, and my gun was pointed to the middle, so all I needed was for him to take 2 more steps and get behind a large tree to move my gun. Instead of doing that, he just spun around and moved back towards the field without offering a clear shot, still clucking for another couple of minutes after. Doesn’t matter - it was definitely my most exciting fall hunt! Just wanted to let you know about my first hunt with your calls and to say thanks for making such a great call! It was the most intense conversation I’ve ever had with a turkey. By the way, this was on heavily pressured public land near Richmond, so you know this gobbler has heard a few different calls in his day. I can’t wait to use them in the spring. Thanks again!
- Don Moyer, Richmond VA

Dear Sir,
I was in Hancock, MD at the apple canal days, there I bought bottle of your scent. It was the best I have ever had. I have told everyone about it. On your site, I read about distributors. How do you do this? I believe I could sell it for you here. Yes, I seen where there is a store in Winchester. Inquiring minds would like to know. I need to order more the first of December, to get ready for the season or finish the season. Thank You.
- Jerry Mellott

When you can get mature bucks to come in downwind and not show signs of alarm it speaks volumes for the effectiveness of a cover scent. I had 4 and 1/2 year old deer that never knew I was in the area before they were shot.
In both instances I was surrounded by does, and fully expected to be busted at any moment. Try BTD! You will never want to hunt without it again!
- Clifford Neames, McComb Mississippi

Dear Max,
I would like to say thank you for the free sample of BTD sent that you gave me. I work at Hunters Den in Tazewell Va. I was there the day that you brought Larry the scent. I used the bottle you gave me this past hunting season I was really pleased with it. I have a story that I would like to tell you I was using your scent one evening during the early bow season. I had never really got a good look at bear before. I was setting in my stand and saw a couple of deer running down below my stand I couldn’t figure out why because the wind was blowing in the right direction. I looked up to the other side of my stand and there was a bear it was only about twenty yards. The bear started to go on down the hill but the wind had changed the bear stood up and turned around. Before the bear could get to my stand he had to cross some logs that I had crossed I figured that he would smell where I had crossed the logs but he didn’t. I looked at my watch when he crossed the logs it was five o’clock. The bear messed around my stand for a while then he came to the same tree that I was in and started to come up the tree but he stopped and just hung on my tree for a while. The bear finally decided to leave and it was five thirty the bear had been within twenty yards the whole time. It was four more days until the season opened for bears needless to say I didn’t see the bear that close again. I will have to tell you the truth I didn’t wear your scent for a while. But the very next time I had put on your scent I saw another bear. I would just like to say thanks for the scent that you gave me it made me a believer I will use it from now on.
Sincerely,
Justin Griffith, Tazewell VA

PS: If you want to use my email you can because I am a firm believer in your scents I also have a couple of pictures at home of deer I have killed using your scents. They aren’t big bucks there just small bucks. I wish a thousand times that I would have had my camera the day the bear came up my tree.

I used Whitetail Cover this year as well as my son. Although neither of us got a dear (our first year at this!) we both had experiences where we had Deer come up to where we could almost have poked them with our gun barrels. Had one doe run up behind us while we were both sitting at the base of trees about 20′ apart. I whispered for David to turn slowly and look as I had done. He turned to look and the deer was still there just looking. When David moved his arm to point at the deer, it finally ran off. On another occasion, I meet a fellow the last day of the season at Chic WMA. We both sprayed it on walked into the woods before dawn. As we walked, we passed within a very few feet of a deer Bedded down in some thick cover. One of us spoke and as the other answered, the deer jumped up and took off. Don’t know for sure whether it was just laying low hoping we’d pass, or just didn’t scent us, but buddy, we were CLOSE to that one. Wish I could have gotten an eyeball on him because he sure sounded big.

Max,
My Nephew and myself sprayed down with the bottle of BTD Cover Scent I had on the opening morning of bow season. Fifteen minutes after getting in his stand a spike buck approached from downwind closing to 15yds before my Nephew arrowed him. He bought his own bottle the next day. I had as many as 12 deer under and around my stand approaching from all directions and not once was I winded. I had two particular does approach up wind, look up and see me but could not figure me out, back out while still looking at me, circle to my left and went 30yds down wind of me, test the air for three or four minutes while circling and finally relax and walked past me to 20yds up wind of me again. I’m convinced there’s something to the stuff (BTD) and that it works.

It was late on a Saturday afternoon and I decided to go get in my deer stand. Since it was late I had no time to shower up, So I put on my camo and sprayed myself good with BTD as I got out of the truck. I also applied a small amount on my equipment and a liberal amount to my boots. To get to my spot I actually had to cross and walk down a deer trail. I got set up and waited. At about last light I noticed a nice buck making a scrape right on the trail I came in on. He finally continued down the path and offered me a clean shot at 23 yards. He never knew I was there. This is the biggest buck I have killed with a bow. I have used BTD for 2 years now, and have been very pleased with the results. Thanks BTD!!

This is the first year (2002)that I used BTD and I’m hooked! I had deer around me all during muzzleloader and rifle season and not a single one winded me. For the first time in many years, I hunted on the ground instead of in a tree stand. I had obtained permission to hunt a small farm that had very little in the way of standing timber. On the first day of early muzzleloader season, I had a large spike walk within 10 feet of me downwind and he never spooked. He knew something was not right and kept circling to wind me, holding his nose high to the wind several times. I knew then that BTD was doing a great job. The next day, while sitting in the corner of a field against a barbed wire fence line, I had a small six pointer jump the fence directly downwind of me at 15 feet and walk within 10 feet of my position. He never knew I was there and walked away using the same trail that I walked in on! On the last day of rifle season, I headed to the mountains in the National Forest of Craig County. At daylight, A nice seven point buck chased a doe right by my tree stand. They both came from downwind and neither deer knew I was there. I harvested the seven pointer which is pictured above. Fifteen minutes after I shot this buck another, larger than the first, came down the same trail after the doe. He never realized I was there, but he did figure out something was wrong when he hit the spot where the first buck was shot. He stood motionless for about 5 minutes, then slowly turned and walked away without alarm. What a morning! Thanks for the great cover scent.
-Dale Harless

I first heard of BTD from Fur Fins & Feathers in Hillsville VA. I used it during the 2002 season. The day I took my 6 pointer I passed on several does and smaller bucks before he came right under my stand. I can honestly say BTD Whitetail Cover Scent truly works. Thanks Max for a first rate product !
-James Nester - Carrol Co. VA

I have used BTD since it was first made. This 8pt 147 1/8 typical buck is proof that BTD works. He is only one of many that BTD has helped me harvest. This citation buck never knew I was in the world. THANKS BTD!!
-Ryan Hewitt, Swoope, VA

Having known Max for a few years he asked me to try his cover scent in 1999. As with anything I was skeptical about using it. I have used it continuously since and can say the stuff truly works. Thanks Max for a great product!
-Doug Seaman, Buena Vista VA

Being an avid bow hunter, I knew what I had to do to successfully harvest a deer. I needed to do whatever it took to beat its nose. Somewhat upset that my ordered scent lock suit had not yet arrived, I dawned my normal camouflage and headed to my tree stand. Before getting too close to my stand location, I stopped and sprayed myself with BTD. Before I could climb into my stand, I caught a glimpse of an approaching deer. Unfortunately, it was downwind. I knew this was going to be the ultimate test for BTD. The old, mature doe came within 15 feet of me. Unfortunately, caught in the wide open, I wasn’t able to get a shot on her. When she walked off, she still had no idea I was there. Immediately, I climbed into my stand. I hadn’t been settled in the stand but 10 minutes when I heard the crunching sound of approaching deer. The deer walked right in on me. Never picking up any scent I had left in the area. Finally, they gave me a chance to come to full draw. I had a successful shot on a doe that was standing in the path I had walked in on. What felt like a waste of time when I left home, ended up being a quick, very successful hunt. I thought about the hunt on the way home. I would have to credit the success of the hunt to BTD. I have used several other attractant and cover scents in my hunting. None have ever worked as well as BTD. It kept my scent covered in what I consider to be the harshest conditions. Those conditions being extremely close game in unfavorable wind. The rest of the ride home consisted of me debating whether to return $300 of Scent Block clothing for a refund.
-Mark Hisey, Staunton, VA

I first heard about Whitetail Cover Scent at a sports show last year. This year at a show I decided to buy a bottle and give it a try. The very first day using it I had deer all around me. I was running late getting to my stand so I sprayed the stuff all over me and my equipment . The 10pt buck walked right up to me. Now he hangs on my wall!
- Craig Kern - Eagle Rock VA

We got out of the truck and sprayed down good with BTD Whitetail Cover then headed to our stands. I remember it was very cold then all I remember was seeing the movement in the brush. The moment turned into a deer, an 8pt. The wind was blowing straight to right at him as I shot. At the second shot he hit the ground. I called my Dad to tell him I had shot a nice buck with the help of BTD. Folks, this stuff REALLY works!!
- Curtis Rankin - Churchville VA

Dear Max Rowe,
I bought so of your scent at Bill’s Guns in Luray VA before this past deer season. I used it everyday rifle season. The first day I had three deer directly under my stand. Later in the season I bagged a 5pt weighting about 125lb. I bagged a total four deer using your scent. I am very much looking forward to using your scent this coming season! Thanks!
